Indonesia Day 5: Another Lovely Train Day

May 12 was a travel day. After breakfast at the hostel, I relaxed and FaceTimed Brina while Hayley went to check out a local market. We then met at Okid Cafe to order some lunch food to take on the train.

Around 10:30, we Grabbed to the train station. Our 7-hour train ride lacked wifi this time, but still had A/C so we were happy. I spent this time composing the first few blog posts of the trip, using Microsoft Word.
The train station had several giant pots of thriving orchids

One of many train snacks: breadfruit chips. We also snacked on banana chips, ube chips, tempeh chips, and two kinds of packaged cookies.

Upon arrival at the Probolinggo station, we Grabbed an hour south through rural areas to the remote Bromo Camp and Dormitory. It's about as glamorous as it sounds (more on this later). Arriving well after dark, we found the gray concrete building at the end of a terrifyingly steep, narrow, bumpy, and long driveway. After checking in and booking our ~sunrise excursion~ for the next morning, we immediately climbed into our side-by-side "capsule" upper bunk beds (essentially meaning they are embedded in the wall). We set up our mosquito nets and then set our alarms for 2:15am in preparation for a 2:30am pickup...
