Indonesia Day Three: To Yogyakarta!

08:50 — train from Jakarta to Yogyakarta (y’s pronounced like j’s)

First up, some tasty train station food:

My favorite, double cheese chicken mayo rice stored at room temp:

What I really ate was some chocolate bread:

We arrived in Yogya at 3pm and immediately Grabbed to the hostel, which was a major improvement from our (rather nondescript) stay in Jakarta.

“Snooze Hostel” in Yogya is full of flourishing plants and staffed by incredibly friendly people. They greeted us with a house tour and free iced (!!) tea. Upon their recommendation, we walked two blocks to Okid Cafe for a late but worth-waiting-for lunch.

We finished our meal around 5pm and then walked a few (treacherous due to lack of sidewalk) blocks to an art gallery we’d seen on the way in. The gallery was featuring 24 Indonesian and Singaporean artists and had lovely (and somewhat pat) themes of peace, growth, and connection.

I looked up a street market that was about 15 minutes away by cab, but it ended up being more moped-friendly than pedestrian-friendly. I still managed to snag a steamed coconut-flour dessert thing that was pretty yummy.

It was barely 7pm but we were exhausted, so we Grabbed back to the hostel and I was asleep by 8.
