May 14: To Ubud! and HBD Dad!

Woke up to a gorgeous morning in Bromo:

Said goodbye to our hostel's inspirational decor:

drank some JAVA-style JAVA on the porch (when coffee got popular globally it was mostly from Java, Indonesia!!!!!)

On the 13th, we had made a plan with our Grab driver who brought us from the Probolinggo train station to Bromo Camp. He said he could pick us up from the camp the morning of the 14th and take us to the airport in Surabaya (2h away). However, the night of the 13th he told us that he needed to pick up his kid instead, so he was sending his friend to drive us. As this was the second time our driver had been swapped out late notice, we wondered if Indonesian men believed that we saw them as interchangeable.

The new driver was perfectly friendly but had an older car whose a/c system was struggling mightily. So it was a very warm 2h in the car to Surabaya. But we made it on time, got to Denpasar (capital of Bali), and then Grabbed thru 2h of traffic to our homestay in Ubud.

some casual airport fish (in case you need some ASAP)

I got these amazing chocolate chip cookies in the airport but only ate one and saved the rest and then ants found them in Ubud </3 RIP </3

Indonesia from the air (I think this is still Java)

It was dark when we arrived, but our first impression was of a long and narrow property with multiple small buildings and lots of lush green plants. After checking in, we found a vegan restaurant for dinner and then walked around a bit downtown before going to bed.

some Balinese vegan food designed for people like me

This fruit seller gave us his WhatsApp in case we had a fruit emergency at any point during our time in Bali. Always good to have a fruit guy on speed-dial, you know?
